New Entrant / 5 year olds:
It is really helpful if you can pre-enrol your child 6 months before their 5th birthday.
We encourage our pre enrolled new entrants to start to visit us. Please contact the office and schedule three or four visits beginning one month before their 5th birthday. Visits to the new entrant rooms, on Wednesday mornings at 9am, help your child to have a smooth transition to school. You child can meet their teacher, meet new friends and build their confidence around what happens at school. These visits also assist you in getting to know us better; allow you to meet our principal Sandy, our staff and other families.
Prior to your child starting school you will need to make an appointment with one of our senior team members for an interview. This way we can clarify any questions you may have and get to know about your child's learning needs.
When your child starts school, we encourage you to bring their "learning journey portfolio" from their early childhood centre. This may be left in the classroom library corner, for your child to share their experiences, stories and photographs, while they are in their first class at school. We believe this helps to give your child a sense of belonging in their new classroom.
At Freemans Bay School you will notice that students call staff by their first names. This gives our students a friendly and familiar sense of school community. Our new entrant teachers are Janis and Susan. The whanau team is "Whanau Rau". Susan is the team leader of Whanau Rau and Janis is our Associate Principal.
