Student Led Conferences

Student Led Conferences- Students reporting their learning achievement to parents

This year our student led conferences will be held on August 9th starting at 2pm. Students will go home at 1pm (lunchtime) to allow these to happen. At Freemans Bay School we have a   learning environment where students collaborate, increasingly manage their own learning, reflect on that learning and have their peers/parents/caregivers and educators provide feedback.
Increasingly much of this learning is done online as part of our integrated e-learning environment.

Student led conferences provide an opportunity for students to reflect on their learning goals and have parents give them feedback and consider ways to support their learning at home. Knowledge Net. Students will be able to open up their goals on a classroom computer to access our on-line learning environment, “Knowledge Net” and talk to you about their goals and next learning steps.

The focus of the student led conference is on:
  • Literacy goals
  • Numeracy goals
  • Habits of Mind (work habits)
Some students will talk to you about other work they have been doing on Knowledge Net such as learning journals.  You are able to continue to give feedback on your student’s goals on Knowledge Net at home.

What does  a  student led conference look like?
  • A conversation between the students and their parent about learning
  • Other families are present in the room at the same time
  • The teacher is present but the student is doing the talking about their learning

Portfolios

Portfolios provide documentation of your child’s learning. Exercise books, digital files, drawings and classroom displays also represent student learning. The information in each student’s portfolio, along with other classroom working documents, clearly informs parents about their child’s expectations, actual progress and achievement. Portfolios also provide a National Standard checkpoint.

This enables parents to see information that details:
  • The student’s actual level of attainment in key curriculum areas (literacy, numeracy and habits of mind)
  • The student’s current achievement level compared to the age expected level

Remember that you are always welcome to make a time to have an individual appointment with the class teacher to talk about your students learning.
