October Update
Auckland families have an opportunity to walk through Victoria Park Tunnel on Saturday 29th October. This is going to be a fundraising event for Freemans Bay School / Community Hall.
The gold coin donation collected from those walking through the tunnel will go towards our hall. We are wanting to have a big presence and each whanau will be presenting items or activities such as Face painting during the day. Judy Browne will also be organising some musical items. Jo is organising the timetable of events. Parent group will be providing food for all of the volunteers. Auckland Rotary Clubs are providing collectors for the gold coins.

July Update
The Victoria Park Tunnel project is rapidly heading towards completion. The tunnel structure is now complete and most of the work is underground, to install lighting, safety systems, traffic barriers and communications.
Weather permitting, the tunnel will open to two lanes of northbound traffic on 7 November. The Wellington Street motorway on ramp will reopen at the same time.
With northbound traffic in the tunnel, the project will work up to and over Christmas to reconfigure the flyover for southbound traffic. The target date for opening the flyover in the new configuration and the third lane in the tunnel is 9 January.
A major driver education campaign is being planned to ensure motorists understand how the reconfigured flyover will work. There will be significant changes. For example, the existing southbound lanes will be for traffic heading to the CBD via Cook Street and the SH16/Port link only. The existing northbound lanes will be for traffic heading to and beyond Newmarket only.

February 2010 Update
Preparatory works are underway on our school boundary for the $400m Victoria Park Tunnel project to increase the capacity of the Southern Motorway between Wellington Street and the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
Over the next two and a half years the project will be a significant part of our school community. Conversely, the Freemans Bay School is acknowledged by the project as an important stakeholder to be kept well informed of events and progress that may impact on the school.
